A few years ago one of our foster dogs, Maisy, had a stuffed owl that our neighbor kid named Mr.Hooters. Since then, Mr.Hooters has had much love from many different dogs – I believe Mr.Hooters is still hanging out at the lake.
At any rate, this past weekend, we had a real life Mr. (or Mrs…not sure) Hooters come and visit the farm for a while. The size and “horns” gave it away as a Great Horned Owl and we watched him out by the pond for quite some time until he flew up into the trees and we couldn’t see him anymore.
We have heard owls on various occasions at night and it is so amazing. One night last summer we heard two of them hooting back and forth. SO COOL. An surprising how loud and low some of the noises they make are.
Husband managed to get a few pictures – unfortunately, the dirty windows and the distance proved a little bit tricky, but you can definitely tell what it is!
Owls are such interesting birds. Have you ever read up on them? You should – they’re amazing!
Counting down the days until the winter solstice…ready to start seeing more of the sunshine again. I’ve been missing it! It was another cold one here today…22 degrees “below the doughnut” when we left for work this morning. Brrrrr. Kind of loving it though…the fireplace sure feels good!
I swear to you – I really do actually work at my job! We just get to do fun stuff sometimes and that is what you hear about. So even though it may seem like I never actually work while I’m at work. I do.
Really, I do.
This afternoon as a thank you for the hard work we put in for our regional meetings, the CEO treated our team to lunch downtown and then a little outing at the nail bar where we all had manicures and wine. Fun! I chose a sparkly polish from their Christmas collection. :) Of course!
Just a little bit of festivities to help continue with that holiday spirit!
Hope everybody is staying warm out there! Bundle up ya’ll!
In true MN fashion, winter just decided that it was here and all of the sudden our forecast looks like this…
And while those lows that dip below -20 are quite chilly, I really don’t even care! I’m ready for winter to bring it on. Maybe it is the warm fireplace we have to look forward to after a cold drive home, maybe it is just really early in winter and my internal solar batteries are still charged; whatever the case, I am not bothered by this huge cold front we’re stuck in.
We got some snow earlier this week and everything outside looks beautiful and white. We had some wind and an almost blizzard and I was loving every minute of it! (except for the drive to/from work) Maybe this winter is going to be an awesome one for me. I’m holding onto hope that this positive attitude keeps me going as the cold winter days continue!
Bundle up out there ya’ll – don’t want anybody losing their fingers or toes!
Just kidding – it’s really not. :)
Well I have officially decorated my first tree this year! And I am so in the holiday spirit – ready to do my house up all pretty and cute!
We sponsored a tree at work and they asked me to decorate it again this year. So with the help of the other designer and our intern, we tackled that tree and it turned out quite wonderfully!
So here is our progression of decorating!
The ribbon we got this year was gorgeous! I picked some up for my tree last year and am thinking I need more!
I put the topper together from a few different sprays and am so happy with how it turned out! It is dangerous that we decorate the work tree with our logo colors because it makes me want to go buy a bunch of new stuff for my tree at home since it is the same colors!
Putting some of the last balls and sprays on – getting full and gorgeous!
Just a few last tweaks to it and we were all set!
So now where to put our tree at home this year…am thinking about getting a real one for upstairs and then putting the white one in the basement. We’ll see! Can’t wait to start getting everything out though!!!
You’ll be able to find me here pretty much any given evening and weekend this winter.
Heaven. This stove has got to be the best purchase we have ever made in our lives. Seriously. I was just telling husband how I might possibly not be so miserable this winter. I LOVE IT. I love standing in front of it but I also love that it actually makes the house and the things in it warm. The furnace just mostly makes the air warm, the stove makes the air and everything else warm. After we’ve had it going for a while I don’t even have to wear slippers downstairs and that is very impressive!
So here is the setup for right now – I will be designing a wood rack to go to the left, but for right now the floor works just fine. (And PS, wood is really messy!)
Don’t you just love it?! I was so excited when we found one that didn’t look so stuffy and traditional. I love the curved stainless steel panels on the sides! I can’t remember if I talked about this before, but this brand is much more efficient than all other models and has the least emissions from any stove you can buy! Awesome!
We’ve had snow a few times already, but I don’t even care! I almost feel like I’m ready for the winter…except that I’m actually not. It got down into the single digits the past couple of nights and brrrr! It won’t be long and hubby will be able to test out that big new snowblower he got!
Now I know that Halloween was last week, but I didn’t get around to posting pics of our costumes this year! Here is my team – we went with the all encompassing theme of “trick-or-treaters.”
L to R: Photoshop Wizard, Amelia Earhardt, peacock, Jacques Cousteau, cat
Photoshop wizard was SUCH a genius costume – loved it so much! I was jealous I didn’t come up with it!
I didn’t have a real solid plan until 2 night before Halloween. I walked past the closet and saw wetsuits hanging up. Thought I could do something with it, decided to be Jacques Cousteau! It was really funny at work – only 4 people guessed who I was and most of the other people didn’t know who Jacques was even after I told them that’s who I was dressed up as!
Hope everybody had a wonderful Halloween and is starting to get over the sugar comas now! :)
