I keep on kidding myself that the worst of the work at the house is behind us. We are almost completely done with the demo work and starting to put things back together. We had some extra help this past weekend – my brother-in-law and dad were out helping so we really made some progress which was REALLY exciting! I was actually having fun on Saturday, the five of us out there sweating in the heat, but getting stuff done – it felt good.
I was working downstairs on some of the last cleanup/nail removal on the ceiling and things were going really great until i climbed up the ladder and found my face about a foot away from this little treasure dangling down from the floor joists.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! And yes, it was seriously just hanging there like that waiting to be discovered. Up until this point we had not found a single mouse or critter…lots of nests and stashes they had left but nothing other than that. Well this was kind of like a mass grave marker. In the one cavity between floor joists I found two complete skeletons (remarkable well preserved too!) four additional skulls, and a random mix of other little bones and fur. And I’m pretty sure that there were more waiting to be discovered but I was not going to look through the insulation, I just tossed it directly into a pail and pitched it in the dumpster.
So the good news here (weren’t expecting good news, were you?!) is that these were all mouse skeletons and not rats. Phew…what a relief! I say that because we have had traps out in the garage and have caught only two things – one mouse and one small rat. YUCK.
And yes everybody, we have reached a new low. We feel that it is a positive that we’ve only found mice in the walls. oh life…
But things are really actually starting to head in the right direction out there. We have all of the windows ordered for upstairs, new doors for the entry way waiting to get installed, HVAC system has been chosen out and will be installed this month, kitchen plans are slowly taking shape…we might be ready to move in by the end of the year! :)
Husband also got the door to the deck removed and framed in – that is where the master closet is going to be. If you look closely you can see progress being made!
Happy 4th of July everybody – we were supposed to spend the morning working at the house, but we are still sitting in town ignoring that big dark cloud over our heads…this heat and humidity makes it awfully miserable to be working!
I’m off to do some packing here – enjoy the holiday!
