A Little Sunshine

Standard

Since we have been lacking pretty severely in the sunshine department lately, hubby and I have been working on a making a little sunshine of our own. Here is a sneak peak at one of the projects we started this past weekend.

Any guesses on what we’re working on? :)

Commence Gardening!

Standard

Very happy and exciting things are going on around here – it is finally getting to be the time of year for gardening. Hubby and I staked out our claim for a pretty decent sized garden and rented the rest of our tillable land out to a local farmer. It sure doesn’t look like much right now, but good things are coming!

garden

Right now I would say I’ve got a good 65% of it planted. I am pretty obsessed with fall decorations so I’ve leaned towards that kind of garden. Jack Be Little pumpkins, blue pumpkins, swan gourds, luffa gourds, broom corn, indian corn, about half a dozen varieties of sunflowers, and a few other goodies too – some carrots for husband, a few flowers for cutting – bells of ireland, cosmos, and a really neat variety of amaranthus. It is really hard for me to limit myself because I want to grow everything! And I really love growing plants from seed – it is so rewarding!

I have also had a few little fun surprises coming up in the yard gardens as I mentioned in previous posts. Here is one sweet little surprise that has popped up in a few different places – tiny little hyacinths! CUTE!hyacinth

Husband and I are continuing work on all kinds of projects inside and out. We got a ceiling fan installed in our living room, some curtains for our french doors, stumps removed outside, a million branches picked up, cleaned the garage – we have been busy! But it has been a really good kind of busy – we are enjoying our little piece of land very much!

Happy Memorial Day weekend peeps – hope you have a great one!

Two Lips

Standard

I have had a few pretty pleasant surprises outside over the past couple of weeks. Remember the awesome landscaping I showed you a few weeks ago?

landscape

Well, quite surprisingly to me, a lot of those tulips are now blooming! So far there has been two waves of the blooms – the first was the regular looking red with a bit of yellow in the center. I was out looking at them and enjoying them and noticed that some of the buds looked a little funky. I thought that it might possibly be due to them getting all trampled on when they were first coming up and the siding was getting put on, but a small part of me was hoping that they were some fancy kind of tulips.

Fast forward to this week after we got home from a weekend away and it turns out that they ARE fancy tulips! A variety of parrot tulips to my untrained eye. Aren’t they beautiful?!

I am so very excited to have these – maybe my landscaping isn’t so bad after-all?

Look at the beautiful coloring on them!

Now it is starting to feel like spring! parrottulips4

And the best part is that I didn’t even have to feel bad about cutting them and bringing them inside because it has been raining and raining and raining here! But we needed it pretty bad even after all of the snow this winter, so I’m not minding it too much.

Can you believe it is already May 21st?! I kind of hope we get some sunshine now so I can get a bunch of stuff planted in the garden – and work on that scary landscaping too of course!

Triplets!

Standard

Like I don’t have enough sisters already, but today at work I am part of triplets!

tripletday

Isn’t it funny, of all the clothes in the world, and all the clothing combinations, the three of us come to work in outfits that look an awful lot like we were trying to coordinate! I love it!

It is kind of a funny story too. I talked to Hillarious (girl on the right) a few times this morning and didn’t notice anything. But then we were in the bathroom at the same time and at the same time we both realized that we were twins! Especially if I took my blazer off. So we laugh, go in to graduation for some of our new GMs, laugh with the people in there about it, and think that is the end of it. Well, then Hillarious is out in the reception area talking to some people and I hear her exclaim that somebody else matches us too – enter Brownie (girl on left). So Brownie comes into my office to check out my outfit and we all laugh and then all take a picture together. And laugh some more at the random coincidence.

In other smile inducing news, hubby and I got my garden tilled last night. YAY!!!!!!!!!

Spring Cleaning

Standard

Spring cleaning out my brain, a dump of what has been going on.

Sometimes the weather around here just annoys the crap out of me. Sunday it got down to 28, yesterday it was 93. I would really, really like a nice 65 degree day with a nice light breeze and clear blue skies. A real, true spring day.

The lawn has greened up so much over the past week and I’ve been out discovering what plants I’ve inherited with the farm. There are a few exciting surprises that I will share with you later – it makes me so happy to see that even though it hasn’t been kept up much, some of the plants still muscled their way through.

I spent the better part of Saturday morning out in the “flower garden” pulling out all of the quack grass that has taken over. There are a couple plants in there that will be worth saving!

We had a nasty but very quick little storm roll through this morning so we’ve got a ton of sticks to pick up again. And since nothing worth having is ever easy around here, we’ve discovered that our french doors leak. I keep telling husband that I don’t think they got installed quite right but he just won’t listen. Maybe the huge puddle of water that we had to clean up will be a good indicator to him that I’m not just making it up.

The sunset tonight was pretty. It has been nasty windy here all day (gusting to 50!) so we didn’t even really do much outside when we got home, but since we put that massive window in the living room we were able to enjoy the scenery from inside!

Hoping to get out and enjoy the yard some more this week! Happy Spring!

Knockin You Down With A Feather

Standard

I want to show you something that I’m sure will impress the pants right off of you or impress you so much I could knock you down with a feather. That might be better. We don’t want anybody getting a ticket for indecent exposure, right?! Off topic! Here is my impressive thing…

rhubarb patch

Do you like it? Can you tell what it is?

No?

Well if I didn’t already know, I wouldn’t be able to figure it out either. I would guess that it is a very patchy spot of lawn. Which it actually kind of is. BUT scattered in there between the crab grass and decaying leaves is this…rhubarb

RHUBARB!

I have to hunt pretty hard to find signs of spring, but they are there waiting to be discovered! Check back for an update once I get the chance to clean up a little out there!

The Final Graduate!

Standard

Well, I am officially an old fart – my youngest sister graduated from college yesterday.

Husband and I took Friday off to go to commencement and like all college graduations, it took forever, but there were a few highlights.

Dumbledore was walking around, hanging out, keeping the kids in order. I was going to get his autograph afterwards but couldn’t find him.

Baby C graduated with honors! Isn’t she pretty?graduation1

The proud parents! Out of us four daughters – 4/4 went to college, 4/4 graduated college, 4/4 did it in four years, and 4/4 graduated with honors. I think that is pretty impressive, don’t you?!graduation2

I am one proud sister! Can’t wait to see how she changes the world! Love you baby C and a big congrats from hubby and I!graduation3
